Refluxgate Notes

Soft drinks are generally carbonated, which releases gas when in the stomach. This increases the pressure in the stomach and causes reflux. Soft drink consumption is a common cause for chronic reflux. Soft drinks of any kind are generally very acidic. They usually consist of sugar or other sweeteners, and acid. The acid is responsible for the fresh taste. Otherwise it would just taste like sweet water. The acid causes additional irritation to the already inflamed soft tissues.
